Why is moving to the cotswolds so attractive
29 October 2024Are you moving home? Don’t know where to start? Here are some basic guidelines.
All removal companies appreciate that moving house is stressful, but we believe it can be far less so if you have a plan. Give yourself plenty of time to pack—two months if you live in a large house; a month if you’re in a flat. Pack up one room at a time and start the process in rooms that are less frequently used.
Think of moving home as a great opportunity to take stock of what you have and to offload what you no longer need. Now, as you’re packing, is the time to declutter. Remember, the more items you transport, the higher the removal fees will be. Additionally, it means less time and effort spent loading and unloading at your final destination.
Any items of clothing that no longer fit or you no longer wear will be gratefully received by your local charity shops. You might otherwise hold a garage sale or take advantage of a car boot sale. Or you might want to sell online on eBay, for instance.
Any proceeds could, of course, go towards the cost of moving, new furniture, or be set aside for a housewarming party as a reward at the end of all the effort and upheaval.
When packing, make sure that you label each box on top and the sides so you can easily identify its contents when the boxes are stacked.
Reading the label, our crew can easily identify any items that require special treatment, such as breakable or fragile items. Use a different colour pen to label boxes for each room, making distribution much more efficient at your new home.
Itâs also a good idea to put any screws and bolts inside freezer bags and stick them with masking tape to the furniture or appliance they belong to.
If convenient, do take the opportunity to clean your new property before you move in. Often, the previous owners’ move will have caused a mess. It will be much easier for you to clean before rather than after a move when you have all your own clutter to negotiate.
On the day of moving, make sure you have some essentials put by. You should also ensure you have a supply of lightbulbs, as you don’t want to find yourself unpacking in the dark. Pack a suitcase or rucksack with toiletries and spare clothes, and don’t forget to include tea bags, milk and easily prepared food for your first day in your new home.
